Strengthening Devon Heritage: Our Partnership with Coldharbour Mill
In June 2023, we started working with Coldharbour Mill, a historic wool mill in Uffculme, Devon, because of a client’s special request. He wanted a unique outfit made from Devon Blue tartan for a Burns Night event. This led us to order the special cloth from Coldharbour Mill, and we also made him a matching blue velvet jacket.
Inspired by our client, Sharif also made himself a similar outfit, and has worn this to several events, including at Burgh Island and a wedding show in Truro Cathedral.
Following a productive meeting with Coldharbour Mill’s new manager, Meg, we are now working even more closely. We have now delivered a mannequin dressed in Sharif’s tartan outfit to the shop and also 100 vouchers to use to encourage clients to have a suit made from the tartan.
Coldharbour Mill have given us four pieces of tartan cloth which we will make different waistcoats from, and display them in our new shop window. This should help both the Mill and us by attracting clients who might want something special but are not ready to buy a full suit.
Coldharbour Mill has been making wool since 1797 and is one of the oldest of its kind in the UK. They make their tartans on old looms from the 1920s, and it takes about 25 days to produce 40 yards of tartan. This mill is part of a rich history and continues to operate as a top wool museum in the world.
Our partnership with Coldharbour Mill is exciting because it blends traditional craftsmanship with our modern tailoring. We look forward to bringing a piece of Devon’s textile history to our clients.
